Miami, FL – The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued Tropical Storm Warnings for wide areas of the central Caribbean Sea, where developing tropical storm conditions are expected to intensify through Wednesday, Oct. 22.

According to the latest 10:18 a.m. EDT update, multiple marine zones between 68°W and 76°W longitude are under active warnings. Forecasters say sustained winds between 45 and 55 knots (50–63 mph) and seas reaching 20–23 feet are expected from Tuesday night through Thursday, particularly in waters north of 15°N and south of Hispaniola.

The storm system—still unnamed as of Tuesday morning—is producing numerous thunderstorms and heavy squalls from 11°N to 18°N, with strong east-to-southeast winds shifting southwesterly by midweek as the system tracks west-northwest.

The most hazardous conditions are forecast Wednesday and Thursday, when large waves and powerful gusts could pose a severe risk to marine and coastal operations from Jamaica and Haiti to the Colombian Basin. Mariners are urged to avoid travel, secure vessels, and monitor NHC updates for potential storm strengthening.

Seas are projected to gradually subside by late Friday as the system moves out of the region, though residual swells and scattered storms may persist into the weekend.
