Nassau, Bahamas – A dangerous tropical storm is pounding the Bahamas overnight with destructive seas and powerful winds expected to last into Thursday. Offshore swells are topping 30 feet in some areas, creating life-threatening conditions for vessels and coastal communities.

According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, tropical storm warnings remain in effect from the central to northern Bahamas, with winds of 30 to 40 knots and numerous squalls pushing through the islands. Hazardous marine conditions will persist into Thursday, with seas only slowly subsiding from near 30 feet to 15 feet by late in the day.

Residents and travelers across Nassau, Freeport, and Abaco should prepare for periods of heavy rain, flooding, and dangerous surf. Authorities are urging boaters to remain in port and beachgoers to avoid the water until conditions improve. Power outages and localized street flooding are also possible as the storm tracks northwest.

By Friday, winds are expected to diminish, though rough surf and swells between 8 and 12 feet will continue through the weekend. Additional storms may flare up as the system pulls away, keeping skies unsettled across the islands.

Warnings remain in effect until at least Thursday night, with updates expected from emergency officials as conditions evolve.
