Albany, N.Y. – Residents across the Capital Region should brace for a wet Wednesday, with steady showers and a risk of thunderstorms pushing into the area by the afternoon. Temperatures will stay cooler, topping out near 62 degrees as clouds and rainfall dominate much of the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, rain chances climb to 70 percent Wednesday, with the heaviest downpours expected in the afternoon and evening. By Wednesday night, additional showers and possible rumbles of thunder will keep conditions unsettled, with lows dropping into the mid-50s.

Drivers on I-90 and commuters heading through Albany, Troy, and Schenectady could face slick roads and reduced visibility during the evening commute. Rainfall totals may reach up to an inch in some locations, raising concerns for minor ponding on roads and low-lying areas.

Conditions improve Thursday as skies begin to clear, and by Friday, sunshine will dominate across the Capital Region. Highs will rise back into the low to mid-80s heading into the weekend, making for a much drier stretch after midweek storms.

More showers are possible late Sunday into Monday, but the immediate focus is Wednesday’s rain and thunder potential.
