Albany, New York – Snow-covered roads and gusty winds will continue to slow travel across the Capital Region through 7 p.m., with slick conditions lingering for the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. EST for Schoharie, Albany, Schenectady, southern Saratoga and western Rensselaer counties. An additional inch of snow is possible this afternoon, bringing storm totals between 1 and 5 inches across the region.
Snow will taper from west to east through late afternoon, but gusty winds will continue to blow and drift freshly fallen snow, especially across open stretches of Interstate 90, Interstate 88 and Route 7. Communities including Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Clifton Park and Cobleskill may see reduced visibility at times as winds shift and loft snow across roadways.
Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra stopping distance and remain alert for drifting in rural and elevated areas. While snowfall ends by early evening, untreated secondary roads and sidewalks could remain slippery into tonight as temperatures hold below freezing.
