Albany, New York – Temperatures are falling fast across upstate New York tonight, setting up a widespread refreeze that could impact roads before the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, lows will drop into the mid-20s for much of the region, with colder pockets in the Adirondacks falling to around 18 degrees, including areas near Newcomb and Old Forge. Cities like Albany, Glens Falls, and Poughkeepsie are expected to bottom out between 23 and 25 degrees by early Sunday morning.

The combination of clearing skies and diminishing winds will allow surfaces to cool quickly, increasing the risk of black ice on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses along I-87, I-90, and Route 7. Drivers should remain alert for slick spots, especially in shaded or rural areas where temperatures fall fastest.

Across eastern New York and into western New England, including Pittsfield and Bennington, similar low temperatures in the low 20s will contribute to patchy frost and icy surfaces.

Conditions will improve after sunrise as temperatures climb above freezing, but additional cold nights remain likely into early next week with more advisories possible.
