The Capital Region is dealing with a period of active weather as a Wind Advisory goes into effect tonight for Albany and surrounding areas. Southerly to southwesterly winds will increase this evening and overnight, with sustained speeds of 15 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph possible, especially in higher terrain. Rain develops overnight, becoming steady at times, and temperatures rise into the 40s.

On Friday, rain may mix with or briefly change to snow as colder air moves in during the afternoon. Gusty winds continue through much of the day, making travel difficult at times and potentially causing isolated power outages or downed tree limbs. Winds gradually ease Friday night as colder, drier air settles in.

The weekend looks quieter. Saturday will be partly sunny and chilly, with highs in the mid-30s, followed by dry but colder conditions Saturday night. Sunday brings more sunshine, with highs near 40.

Looking ahead to the holiday, Christmas Eve on Wednesday is currently shaping up dry and calm for the Albany area. While it will remain seasonably cool, no significant weather hazards are expected at this time, making it a favorable forecast for holiday travel and evening plans.
