Albany, New York – Residents across Albany, Saratoga Springs, and the Capital District should brace for rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms late Monday, with isolated damaging wind gusts posing the biggest threat as storms sweep across the region.

According to the National Weather Service Albany, a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms will persist through this afternoon and evening, stretching from the Capital District south and east into Saratoga County. The main hazards include sudden wind gusts strong enough to knock down trees and power lines, along with lightning and localized flash flooding.

Communities including Schenectady, Troy, and Glens Falls may see roads flood quickly, especially in low-lying areas or where storm drains back up. Travelers are urged to monitor local updates, avoid driving through standing water, and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings—such as NOAA radios or cell phone alerts.

Emergency officials recommend staying off the roads during storms, securing loose outdoor items, and moving indoors at the first sign of thunder. Outdoor plans and evening commutes could be disrupted, so check for updates before heading out.

Thunderstorm risks should taper off late tonight, but more alerts may follow if storms redevelop. Stay weather aware and be prepared for additional advisories into Tuesday.
