Paducah, Kentucky – A sharp temperature swing and an approaching cold front could bring wet roads to I-24 and U.S. 60 after 8 p.m. Saturday, marking the start of a more active stretch of weather across western Kentucky and southern Illinois.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, unseasonably warm air will push highs into the upper 60s and lower 70s Saturday afternoon before a cold front tracks through the region tonight. Showers may develop along and ahead of the boundary, especially near the Interstate 24 corridor from Paducah to Metropolis.

Behind the front, temperatures dip into the 40s and 50s Sunday, with additional rain chances returning late in the day. By Monday and Tuesday, a warmer and increasingly unsettled pattern takes hold across the Quad State region, including Cape Girardeau, Evansville and Mayfield. Nearly daily opportunities for showers and thunderstorms are expected through midweek.

Motorists should anticipate periods of reduced visibility and ponding on roadways, particularly during heavier downpours next week. Gusty winds may also accompany stronger storms, creating brief travel disruptions along I-55 and I-69.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items ahead of any thunderstorms and remain weather-aware as the pattern turns more active. Check for updated statements before traveling, especially during the Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon commute windows. Additional advisories may be issued if stronger storms organize or rainfall totals trend higher across western Kentucky and the surrounding region.
