Paducah, Kentucky – Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches could impact travel along I-24 and surrounding highways this weekend.
According to the US National Weather Service in Paducah, near to slightly above normal temperatures will continue through the weekend across western Kentucky, southern Illinois, southeast Missouri and southwest Indiana. Highs are expected to remain mild before a widespread rain system moves through the region.
Rainy conditions are forecast to develop Saturday and continue into Sunday as a low pressure system tracks across the area. Forecasters say rainfall totals between 1 and 2 inches are possible, with the higher totals more likely to occur across southern portions of the Quad State region, including parts of southeast Missouri and western Kentucky.
Cities including Paducah, Cape Girardeau, Marion and Evansville are expected to see steady rainfall at times. Periods of moderate rain may reduce visibility and create ponding on roadways, particularly along I-24 in western Kentucky, I-55 near Cape Girardeau, I-57 in southern Illinois and I-69 toward Evansville.
Officials note that rainfall amounts may adjust depending on the exact track of the low pressure system. While widespread flooding is not currently forecast, localized water accumulation is possible in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
Drivers traveling for weekend events should allow extra time and monitor updated forecasts as rainfall develops Saturday and Sunday.
