Cape Coral, Florida – Police arrested a suspect early Friday after vehicle burglaries prompted a multi-unit response.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department, officers arrested Koltin Troy Burns, 20, of Cape Coral, following a report of a vehicle burglary in progress near Northeast 18th Avenue on Friday, March 20.

Officers were dispatched around 12:29 a.m. after a resident reported seeing a man attempting to open vehicle doors. Surveillance footage reportedly showed a suspect wearing a blue hoodie and light gray sweatpants entering multiple vehicles in the neighborhood.

Police said officers quickly established a perimeter and issued a suspect description. K-9 units from both Cape Coral Police and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search. Authorities also tracked movement near a canal behind Northeast 18th Avenue, and a police drone later located a man matching the description entering a home on Northeast 17th Place.

According to investigators, Burns allegedly used a kayak to cross the canal, burglarized several unlocked vehicles, and stole items including a wallet before returning across the canal. Officers reported recovering wet clothing and a recently used kayak.

Police said four victims were identified, with stolen items including a wallet and a Tory Burch purse valued at about $320.

Burns was arrested and faces multiple charges, including five counts of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, one count of petit theft over $100 and under $750, and one count of petit theft.

Authorities reminded residents to lock vehicles and remove valuables to reduce theft risk. The case remains under investigation.

The incident may be especially relevant for residents and young drivers who frequently park vehicles overnight in residential areas.
