Barnstable, Mass. – Strong coastal winds are sweeping across Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard this morning, with gusts up to 40 mph expected to continue until early Friday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, a Wind Advisory remains in effect for Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket counties until 2 p.m. North winds of 20 to 30 mph could cause downed tree limbs and isolated power outages, especially along exposed shorelines.
Drivers on Route 6 in Cape Cod and ferries serving the islands should expect difficult travel conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Utility crews are on alert for scattered outages, while residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, trash bins, and other loose items before the peak gusts arrive.
In Provincetown and Chatham, wind-whipped surf could cause minor disruptions along the shoreline. On Martha’s Vineyard, early ferry delays remain possible, and Nantucket residents may experience intermittent power flickers if branches contact lines.
The strongest winds are expected to taper off by mid-afternoon, with calmer conditions returning by tonight. Additional advisories are not expected beyond Friday unless new systems approach over the weekend.
