Candia, NH – One person was seriously injured Wednesday night after two vehicles collided with the same moose on Route 101 in Candia, according to New Hampshire State Police.
At about 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Troopers from the Troop A barracks responded to mile marker 68 on Route 101 following reports of multiple vehicle crashes involving a moose.
According to investigators, the driver of a Mazda 3 was traveling eastbound when the vehicle struck the moose. The animal then crossed the median into the westbound lanes, where it was hit again by a Kia Sportage.
Police said the Mazda’s driver was not injured, but an adult passenger in the Kia sustained serious injuries and was taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester for treatment. Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to significant damage.
The moose was euthanized on site due to injuries from both impacts. Route 101 westbound was temporarily closed while crews cleared debris. Troopers were assisted by Candia Fire and Rescue.
Officials reminded drivers that fall brings increased wildlife activity, particularly at night. Motorists are urged to use high beams when safe, remain alert, and reduce speed to avoid collisions with animals crossing the road.
