
Winnipeg, MB – A woman in her 30s died after being struck by a Winnipeg Police Service vehicle in Fort Rouge Park on Monday night. The incident occurred around 9:27 p.m. as officers were returning an individual to an encampment along the riverbank.
Police officers involved in the collision immediately provided emergency medical assistance to the injured woman. Despite their efforts, she was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to her injuries.
The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba has taken over the investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the fatal collision and assess the actions of the officers involved.
This tragic incident has sparked concern within the community regarding the safety of police operations in public spaces, particularly in parks. The IIU will be responsible for providing answers and ensuring accountability.
