KANKAKEE, IL – A woman was fatally struck by a southbound Canadian National train early Tuesday in Kankakee, prompting an investigation by local authorities.
According to the Kankakee Police Department, officers responded around 6:32 a.m. to reports of a train-versus-pedestrian incident in the 2200 block of South Kensington Avenue. Upon arrival, they found the deceased female victim.
The Kankakee County Coroner’s Office, Canadian National Police, and the Kankakee Fire Department assisted at the scene. Officials are working to confirm the victim’s identity.
Preliminary findings from surveillance footage suggest the incident does not appear to be accidental. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities gather additional evidence and conduct interviews.
