Canaan Valley, West Virginia – Strong and potentially damaging winds are expected to develop early Sunday across the high terrain of Tucker County, creating hazardous travel conditions and increasing the risk for downed trees and power outages through late Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. Sunday through 1 a.m. Monday for eastern Tucker County. West winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph after sunrise, with gusts reaching up to 55 mph, especially across exposed ridges and open areas around Davis, Thomas, and Canaan Valley.
Winds are expected to strengthen quickly Sunday morning, with the most dangerous gusts occurring late morning through the evening hours. High-profile vehicles may experience difficult driving conditions on mountain roads, while unsecured outdoor objects could be blown around. Tree limbs may come down under the force of the wind, which could lead to isolated power outages in higher elevations.
Winds should gradually begin to ease late Sunday night toward early Monday morning, though breezy conditions may linger into the start of the workweek. Residents are encouraged to secure loose items, limit travel in exposed areas when possible, and remain alert for falling debris.
Officials ask residents to report downed trees or power lines as conditions develop. Additional wind advisories may be issued if strong gusts persist longer than expected.
