East Los Angeles, CA – A potent combination of strong Santa Ana winds and dry conditions is elevating fire risk across East Los Angeles. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning and Wind Advisory for much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, effective through 4 p.m. Thursday, urging residents to remain vigilant. High winds, with gusts up to 55 mph, are expected to persist, intensifying the wildfire threat and potentially disrupting power and travel.

According to the National Weather Service, the Red Flag Warning began Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. and will extend until 9 a.m. Thursday in certain high-risk areas. These winds will impact areas along major routes, including Interstate 5, complicating driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles. The combination of gusty winds and low humidity levels—below 15% in some regions—creates a “particularly dangerous situation” for fire ignition and rapid spread.

Extended Forecast for East L.A.:

Thursday: Mostly sunny with a high near 75°F. Winds shifting from northeast to west-southwest at 5-10 mph, gusts up to 15 mph.

Thursday Night: Clear skies with a low around 49°F, light north-northeast winds.

Friday: Sunny, high near 73°F with mild northerly winds shifting west.

Saturday: Another sunny day, high around 72°F, wind conditions easing slightly.

Veterans Day: Chance of rain with cooler temperatures, high near 68°F.

Residents in vulnerable areas, particularly the Santa Monica and San Gabriel Mountains, are advised to stay prepared and monitor local alerts for potential evacuations. These wind and fire conditions increase the likelihood of downed power lines and tree limbs, as well as intermittent power outages. Caution is advised for anyone outdoors, and extra preparedness steps are encouraged for those in wildfire-prone zones.

Be sure to stay updated on changing weather conditions, and consider limiting outdoor activities, especially near dry vegetation or flammable materials.
