Eureka, CA – A powerful atmospheric river storm continues to unleash heavy rain on Northern California, threatening dangerous flooding through Friday.

The Weather Prediction Center issued a High Risk alert for parts of Humboldt and Mendocino counties. Forecasters predict 4-6 inches of rain, with isolated areas seeing up to 8 inches. The heaviest rain is expected overnight Thursday, exacerbating saturated conditions from prior storms.

According to the National Weather Service, the Eel River near Fernbridge could reach Moderate Flood Stage on Friday. Coastal Mendocino and southern Humboldt face sustained heavy rainfall. Strong winds and runoff into streams and rivers will increase the risk of flash flooding.

By Friday, storm patterns will shift westward, bringing lighter rain to Northern California. However, mainstem rivers will remain swollen, sustaining localized flooding risks through the weekend.

Residents are advised to monitor warnings, avoid flood-prone areas, and stay prepared. Transportation disruptions and power outages remain possible as rainfall intensifies.

This system caps off a series of storms targeting the region, with relief expected after the weekend.
