Hanford, CA – A winter storm is set to bring heavy snow and strong winds to the Sierra Nevada from Yosemite National Park to Sequoia National Park, starting late Sunday night and lasting through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 11 p.m. Sunday to 11 p.m. Monday. Snow levels will begin above 6,000 feet Sunday night before dropping to around 5,000 feet by Monday afternoon. The storm is expected to bring between 8 to 12 inches of snow, with some areas potentially seeing higher amounts. Wind gusts could reach 55 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions.

The affected areas include Yosemite National Park, Kings Canyon National Park, Sequoia National Park, and surrounding high-elevation regions such as Huntington Lake, Shaver Lake, Lodgepole, and Tuolumne Meadows. The Monday morning and evening commutes may be severely impacted by snow-covered roads and reduced visibility.

Officials urge travelers to exercise caution, as roads could become impassable. Strong winds may also cause tree damage and increase the risk of power outages. Motorists are advised to check road conditions by dialing 511 before traveling.

Residents and visitors should prepare for winter conditions by carrying chains, packing emergency supplies, and allowing extra travel time. Those in exposed areas should secure outdoor objects against strong winds.
