Sacramento, CA – A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Sierra Nevada and surrounding regions, with heavy snowfall expected to create hazardous travel conditions from late Saturday night through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sacramento, snow accumulations will range from 1 to 5 inches between 4,500 and 6,000 feet, while higher elevations could see 4 to 10 inches. The advisory covers areas including Western Plumas County, Lassen Park, and the West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada, impacting major mountain passes on I-80 and US-50. The advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday until 1 p.m. Monday.

The NWS in Hanford has also issued a winter weather advisory for the southern Sierra, including Yosemite National Park, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Park. Snow totals could reach up to 14 inches at higher elevations, with gusty winds of up to 50 mph. This advisory extends from 10 p.m. Saturday through 10 p.m. Monday.

Officials warn that roads, bridges, and overpasses will likely become slick, making travel difficult, especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes. Motorists are advised to check road conditions at quickmap.dot.ca.gov or by dialing 511 before traveling.

Residents and visitors should prepare for snow-covered roads and reduced visibility, carrying emergency supplies, including chains, food, and water, in case of delays.
