Fresno, CA – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for the Sierra Nevada from 11 p.m. Sunday through 11 p.m. Monday, with heavy snow and strong winds expected to impact travel and outdoor activities in the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, snow levels will start above 6,000 feet Sunday night before lowering to around 5,000 feet by Monday afternoon. Total snow accumulations between 8 to 12 inches are expected, with localized areas receiving even higher amounts. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph, creating hazardous conditions.

The advisory covers Yosemite National Park outside of the valley, Upper San Joaquin River, Kaiser to Rodgers Ridge, Kings Canyon National Park, Grant Grove Area, and Sequoia National Park, including popular locations such as Lake Wishon, Huntington Lake, and Lodgepole.

Travelers should prepare for difficult to impossible driving conditions, particularly during the Monday morning and evening commutes. Strong winds may also lead to tree damage, increasing risks for those in forested areas. Authorities urge motorists to drive cautiously and check road conditions by dialing 511.

Residents and visitors in the affected areas are advised to secure outdoor objects, prepare for potential power outages, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours. Those venturing into the mountains should carry emergency supplies and be prepared for sudden weather changes.
