Hanford, CA – A powerful winter storm is hitting California’s Sierra Nevada, bringing up to 98 inches of snow and dangerous travel conditions through Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, a Winter Storm Warningremains in effect until 10 p.m. PST on Friday, impacting areas above 7,000 feet from Yosemite National Park to Lake Isabella. Winds could gust up to 60 mph, worsening visibility and increasing the risk of tree damage.

Major areas affected include Shaver Lake, Grant Grove, Huntington Lake, and Devils Postpile. The storm will create hazardous road conditions, making travel difficult to impossible, especially on mountain passes. The Thursday morning and evening commutes are expected to be significantly impacted.

Authorities urge residents and travelers to avoid non-essential travel and prepare for potential power outages. If travel is necessary, motorists should carry an emergency kit with food, water, and a flashlight.
