Los Angeles, CA – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Southern California’s mountains from Wednesday evening through Friday morning, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds that could create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Los Angeles, snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are possible above 5,500 feet, with isolated totals of 18 to 24 inches at elevations above 7,000 feet. Winds are expected to gust up to 50 mph, leading to blowing snow and reduced visibility.

The storm will affect multiple mountain regions, including the Eastern and Western San Gabriel Mountains, the Northern and Southern Ventura County Mountains, and the Santa Barbara County Interior Mountains. Locations such as Mount Baldy, Wrightwood, and Mount Pinos may experience significant snowfall.

Travel could become extremely difficult, especially during the Thursday morning and evening commutes. The combination of heavy snow and gusty winds may lead to whiteout conditions on mountain roads, including Highway 14 and Angeles Crest Highway.

Officials urge residents to monitor forecasts and consider delaying travel. Those who must drive should carry a winter storm kit, including tire chains, a flashlight, blankets, and extra clothing. The NWS advises taking precautions and preparing for potential road closures or delays.
