Medford, OR – A winter storm continues to affect parts of Siskiyou County, California, with heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions expected through this afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for areas above 3,500 feet, including the Mount Shasta highlands and surrounding mountainous regions, until 5 PM PDT.

According to the NWS, snowfall accumulation could reach up to 12 inches in some areas, with wind gusts as strong as 35 mph. The storm is expected to significantly impact travel, particularly along high-elevation routes like Interstate 5 and Highway 89, where conditions could make driving dangerous or impossible.

In addition to the Winter Storm Warning, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for areas below 3,500 feet, including Mount Shasta City, Dunsmuir, and McCloud. Snowfall in these areas is expected to accumulate between 3 to 5 inches, further complicating the evening commute.

The NWS advises against travel in affected areas, urging drivers to keep emergency supplies on hand, including tire chains, flashlights, food, water, and fully charged phones. The safest course of action is to stay indoors until conditions improve.
