Mojave, CA – Strong winds are expected to batter the Mojave Desert Slopes beginning Monday morning, with gusts reaching up to 65 mph and continuing through early Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for the region, replacing a Wind Advisory already in effect overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, CA, the Wind Advisory remains active until 8 a.m. Monday, followed by the High Wind Warning from 8 a.m. Monday through 5 a.m. Wednesday. Winds will shift from southwest to west, intensifying throughout the day Monday.

Residents in Mojave and surrounding areas should prepare for widespread power outages, falling tree limbs, and difficult travel conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Secure outdoor items and remain indoors during peak wind periods.

Wind speeds during the advisory are expected to reach 25 mph with 40 mph gusts. Once the warning begins, sustained winds between 35 and 45 mph are forecast, with gusts topping out at 65 mph.

Officials advise drivers to avoid high-elevation roads if possible and use extra caution when traveling. The strongest winds are likely during afternoon and evening hours.
