Eureka, Calif. – A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for Trinity County from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday as thunderstorms bring the risk of dry lightning, erratic winds, and rapid fire spread.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, scattered thunderstorms will continue through the evening, carrying a 25 to 35 percent chance of producing dangerous lightning strikes without rain. Officials warn that gusty winds may fan flames quickly if new fires ignite in the area’s dry fuels.

Residents in communities such as Weaverville, Hayfork, and Lewiston are urged to remain alert for sudden fire starts. The U.S. Forest Service advises postponing outdoor activities and seeking shelter indoors if thunder is heard. Fire crews across Trinity County are on heightened alert, as even one strike could trigger fast-moving wildfires.

Travelers along Highway 299 and backcountry routes should use caution, as smoke and fire activity could develop quickly. Locals are encouraged to report any new fire starts immediately to fire authorities.

The Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 11 p.m. Monday, with conditions expected to improve overnight. More advisories may be issued later this week if storms return.
