Bishop, CA – A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for the Eastern Sierra Slopes from late Wednesday night through Friday morning, with forecasters warning of potentially hazardous travel conditions and significant mountain snowfall.
According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, the system could bring 5 to 10 inches of snow between 7,000 and 9,000 feet, and up to 16 inches above 9,000 feet. Gusty winds reaching 40 mph are also expected, further reducing visibility in higher elevations.
Officials caution that travel on Highway 168 west of Bishop could become difficult or even impossible as snow accumulates through Thursday and Friday. The heaviest snow may arrive late Thursday, though forecasters note that timing and snow levels remain uncertain, meaning totals could shift as the storm evolves.
The NWS advises residents and travelers to monitor updated forecasts and prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions across Inyo County and the Sierra region.
This early-season storm could mark the start of a notably active pattern heading into mid-November, raising the risk of additional snow events in the Sierra Nevada later this month.
