San Francisco, CA – A major weather system is expected to bring heavy rain and potential flooding to the Bay Area starting tonight. Local officials are urging residents to prepare for significant rainfall and possible disruptions through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, rain will begin around 10 p.m. tonight and could last into Wednesday, impacting San Francisco and nearby cities. The rain could total up to 0.75 inches in some areas, with the heaviest precipitation expected along the coast and in the Santa Cruz and Santa Lucia Mountains. Flash flooding is a concern in areas with steep terrain, particularly in the Central Coast region.

Motorists are advised to take extra precautions, especially on roads like Interstate 280 and Highway 101, which could become slick. Flooding is also a concern for smaller roads and low-lying areas. Residents in these zones should remain alert for possible road closures and advisories.

In addition to rain, winds will increase, with gusts up to 22 mph expected, adding to the hazardous conditions. Local authorities recommend staying indoors during the peak storm hours. This storm is expected to subside by Thursday, but additional rainfall is possible in the coming days.
