SAN FRANCISCO – A calm, cloudy Veterans Day morning will give way to a much more active stretch as the Bay Area braces for a midweek Pacific storm system. After a mild start near 60 degrees, clouds will thicken through the day before the next round of widespread rain and gusty winds sweeps in Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Monterey, rain will first reach the North Bay Wednesday afternoon before spreading across San Francisco and the Peninsula by evening. The system carries moderate rainfall potential, with totals up to three-quarters of an inch expected in lower elevations and heavier bursts in coastal hills. Winds may gust 25 to 30 mph near the Golden Gate and across the East Bay hills, reducing visibility and slowing the evening commute along I-80 and U.S. 101.

Thunderstorms could briefly develop Wednesday night as colder air sweeps through aloft. The front will gradually clear Thursday, though lingering showers may persist into Friday morning. By the weekend, skies are set to dry out, giving way to cooler but seasonable weather — perfect for cleanup or early holiday errands after the storm’s passage.

Drivers should plan extra travel time midweek, secure loose outdoor items, and clear storm drains before rainfall increases. Coastal residents should also watch for slick conditions on bridges and elevated roads during the Wednesday evening rush.

After several dry weeks, this system marks a welcome return to November rain — and a clear reminder that Northern California’s winter transition season has officially begun.
