LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The sky glows faintly above downtown Los Angeles this Thursday morning, calm and still after a mild night. The marine layer that hugged the coast earlier has thinned, but it’s poised to make a comeback—one that could slow early drives and add that signature Southern California haze back into the mix by Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, clear skies will dominate through this afternoon, with highs reaching the mid- to upper-70s across the metro and inland valleys. Light west winds return late, followed by calm, cool air that will allow fog to redevelop in coastal and basin zones before sunrise Friday. Visibility could drop below one mile in pockets along the I-10 and U.S. 101 corridors, particularly near Santa Monica, Downtown L.A., and East L.A.

Friday and Saturday will stay seasonably warm with afternoon highs near 78°F to 80°F, but expect patchy fog each night—burning off by midmorning. Beachgoers should watch for reduced visibility early, while late-night drivers will need extra caution in the denser patches near the coast and passes.

Looking ahead, Sunday’s pattern remains steady, but models show a gradual warming trend early next week. Highs could climb into the low 80s by Tuesday as offshore flow strengthens. For now, it’s a picture-perfect late-October stretch: cool mornings, warm afternoons, and just enough coastal fog to remind Angelenos that fall in Southern California still comes wrapped in gold light and a faint ocean chill.
