Ukiah, CA — A sharp drop in overnight temperatures will lead to widespread frost across several interior valleys of Northern California early Thursday morning. The National Weather Service in Eureka has issued a Frost Advisory from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday for portions of Trinity, Mendocino, and Lake counties, including communities such as Ukiah, Willits, Weaverville, Lakeport, and Laytonville.
Forecasters expect temperatures to fall to around 34 degrees, cold enough for frost formation that may harm sensitive vegetation. According to meteorologists, normally colder pockets in the interior valleys may dip slightly lower, increasing frost coverage before sunrise. According to local agricultural reports, tender crops and exposed plants may sustain damage if not protected.
Residents are encouraged to cover outdoor plants or bring them indoors where possible. Pets and small livestock should also be given appropriate shelter during the early-morning chill. Temperatures gradually warm after mid-morning as sunshine returns.
