EUREKA, Calif. – The air along the North Coast feels still and heavy this morning, the fog hanging low over the harbor and the redwood-covered hills. Headlights flicker faintly through the mist as Eureka and nearby coastal towns begin the day under dense fog and calm winds. The quiet won’t last long — November’s next Pacific system is already forming offshore, poised to bring steady rain later this week.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, fog will linger through late morning before giving way to filtered sunshine and mild air. Highs today will reach the mid-60s, continuing a stretch of unseasonably pleasant weather into Monday and Veterans Day, when skies stay mostly clear with highs in the lower 60s. Those planning outdoor ceremonies or travel will enjoy tranquil, dry conditions — ideal for early holiday errands or yard cleanup before wetter weather returns.

By Wednesday, however, the pattern shifts. Rain develops across Humboldt and Del Norte counties, spreading south through Mendocino by evening. Breezy coastal winds will accompany the front, and periods of moderate rainfall may create slick roads and reduced visibility along U.S. 101 and State Route 299.

Showers look to continue into Friday, with totals between 0.5 and 1 inch possible along the coast. Temperatures will stay cool, hovering in the mid-50s to low 60s through the end of the week.

Residents should prepare now for changing road conditions and slower commutes, especially during early-morning fog or heavier midweek rain. After all, it’s November in Northern California — the start of rain season has truly arrived.
