California’s north coast is bracing for bursts of small hail that could quickly coat roads and catch drivers off guard. Showers are already increasing around Eureka, and pavement along U.S. 101 looks damp and reflective as temperatures hover in the mid-40s.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 10 p.m. this evening through 7 a.m. Wednesday for Del Norte and northern Humboldt counties. Scattered to numerous hail showers are expected, and even small accumulations may create slick travel conditions during the late-night and early morning commute.

Rain intensifies later today, with highs near 50 degrees before cooling into the upper 30s and low 40s tonight. As colder air filters in, heavier showers could mix with hail. Brief coatings on bridges and overpasses may create sudden slippery spots. Drivers along U.S. 101 from Arcata to Crescent City should plan for reduced traction and slower travel.

Showers continue Tuesday with highs in the mid-40s. Rain remains steady Tuesday night into Wednesday, with temperatures dipping into the 30s. While snow is not expected at lower elevations, small hail may continue in stronger cells.

By Thursday and Friday, rain persists with highs climbing back toward the upper 40s and near 50. Looking ahead to President’s Day Week, a gradual warming trend develops. Highs may reach the lower to mid-50s by the weekend, signaling early hints of milder late-February weather across Northern California.

Five Day Outlook for Eureka, California:

Monday: Rain, high near 50.
Tuesday: Showers, high near 46.
Wednesday: Rain, high near 47.
Thursday: Rain, high near 48.
