California rain drums against rooftops and leaves Mission Valley streets shining under gray skies this morning. Showers continue across San Diego, and pockets of heavier rain are still moving through. Drivers along I-5 and I-8 should expect slick pavement and brief visibility drops through late morning.

The National Weather Service reports an 80% chance of rain today, with showers mainly before 10 a.m. Some bursts could turn heavy at times. Rainfall totals between a quarter and half inch are possible. South winds range from 5 to 10 mph, with gusts reaching 20 to 25 mph near the coast.

Skies begin to break later today, and highs climb to about 64 degrees. Clouds linger tonight with lows near 52. By Thursday, sunshine returns and temperatures rise to the mid-60s. Friday turns mostly sunny and warmer, with highs near 69, setting the stage for a pleasant start to Valentine’s Weekend Feb. 13-15.

Saturday brings increasing clouds but stays mild near 69. Rain chances ramp up again Sunday afternoon and continue into early Monday. Showers could be steady at times, so plan extra travel time late this weekend.

Across California, this same Pacific system continues to deliver heavy Sierra snow while lower elevations deal with rain. Looking ahead into the 6–10 day period, milder air builds across much of the West and central U.S. Temperatures may run 10 to 20 degrees above average next week, hinting at an early taste of spring.

Thursday: Partly sunny, high 66.
Friday: Mostly sunny, high 69.
