California’s North Coast is bracing for another surge of steady rain, and low-lying roads in and around Eureka could begin pooling with water by this afternoon.

Skies remain overcast this morning with temperatures in the mid-50s. Rain chances increase quickly through the day. According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Flood Watch is in effect from this evening through Tuesday evening for coastal Del Norte, Humboldt, and Mendocino counties, including Eureka. Forecasters warn that 1 to 2 inches of additional rain are possible, with locally higher amounts in heavier bands.

Periods of moderate to heavy rain will raise the risk of flooding along small rivers, creeks, and flood-prone streets. Excessive runoff may also trigger rock and landslides along steep terrain and highways, especially on US-101 and State Route 299. South winds could gust as high as 38 mph tonight, adding to travel hazards.

Rain becomes widespread tonight and continues through Tuesday, when highs reach near 59 degrees. Breezy conditions persist before showers gradually taper late Tuesday night. Residents in low-lying neighborhoods should clear storm drains and secure outdoor items. Avoid driving through flooded roadways. It takes only a small amount of moving water to stall a vehicle.

By Wednesday, scattered showers linger before partial clearing. Highs settle into the mid-50s. Drier weather builds Thursday with some sunshine returning. The broader 6–10 day outlook hints at milder, more stable conditions into early next week, signaling a gradual shift toward early spring patterns.
