A silver-gray blanket of fog covers the Humboldt Bay coastline this morning, muting the waves and headlights along Highway 101. The cool, damp air brings a classic coastal December feel to Eureka, where temperatures will hover in the 50s and low 60s through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, patchy fog and low clouds will remain the dominant feature through Wednesday morning, keeping visibility around 3 miles or less during the early commute. Calm winds will do little to move the haze, allowing the fog to linger along the immediate coast before gradually burning off by late morning.

Daytime highs reach near 61°F Tuesday and hold steady through Thursday. By Wednesday afternoon, skies will begin to clear, bringing some welcome sunshine to the North Coast after several fog-filled mornings. Drivers should remain cautious, especially during early travel on coastal routes such as U.S. 101 and State Route 299, where visibility may shift quickly.

By Thursday and Friday, mostly sunny skies will dominate, with highs climbing toward 58–60°F. The weekend could bring a few light showers as moisture from the Pacific edges inland again, though no major systems are expected yet.
