California’s North Coast is waking up to damp streets and a steady gray sky, and heavier rain is lining up just offshore. Drivers along US-101 can expect conditions to deteriorate quickly by midday as showers become more persistent.
According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, rain chances climb to 80 percent late today and reach 100 percent Sunday. Highs top out near 56 degrees today before cooling into the lower 50s Sunday and Monday. Rainfall totals between a quarter and half an inch are possible by Sunday night, with additional showers into President’s Day Monday.
A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect along the coast, with rough surf and dangerous conditions near jetties and rocks. Stay off slick coastal infrastructure and avoid turning your back to the ocean.
Roadways across Humboldt County will stay wet for several days. Ponding is likely on low-lying stretches of Broadway and sections of US-101 south of town. Allow extra braking distance and keep headlights on during heavier bursts. Gusty south winds may also reduce visibility near open coastal areas.
Showers continue into Tuesday, with highs dropping into the mid-40s. By Tuesday night, temperatures fall into the mid-30s. While widespread snow is not expected at sea level, colder inland valleys could see patchy frost if skies briefly clear midweek.
Looking ahead, milder air is projected to build later next week. President’s Day Week may end with above-normal temperatures and hints of early spring vibes across Northern California.
