California’s coastline is sending a clear warning this morning as steady waves roll in with more force than usual. Along San Diego beaches, the surf looks inviting at first glance, but conditions are turning hazardous quickly near the waterline.

According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, a High Surf Advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday. West-facing beaches across San Diego County and coastal Orange County are seeing breaking waves of 5 to 8 feet, with occasional sets reaching 10 feet. Strong rip currents are also developing, especially near jetties and piers.

These currents can pull swimmers away from shore with little warning. Minor beach erosion is possible, and higher tides may cause water to spill into low-lying parking areas near the coast. Lifeguards urge beachgoers to stay out of the water, particularly those without strong ocean experience.

Inland conditions feel calmer, but the morning starts cool. Temperatures hover in the mid-50s early, then rise into the low 70s this afternoon under mostly sunny skies. Patchy fog remains possible near coastal highways, including I-5, during the early commute before clearing late morning.

Sunday stays warm and bright, with highs climbing into the mid-70s. Changes arrive early next week. Clouds increase Monday night, and by Tuesday morning, light showers become possible. Wet roads and reduced visibility could slow commutes into midweek.

Looking farther ahead, a warming trend builds late next week. Temperatures trend above seasonal averages, hinting at a quieter stretch of February weather across Southern California.

If you’re heading to the beach today, keep your distance from the surf and watch posted warnings. Seeing rough water where you are? Share what conditions look like along your stretch of coast.
