Fresno, California – Afternoon and evening outdoor plans across the Sierra Nevada could be disrupted Tuesday as a line of thunderstorms develops from Yosemite National Park through Fresno County. Dangerous lightning, gusty winds, and bursts of heavy rain may arrive as early as 11 a.m., with hazards lingering through 8 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, there is a 10–15 percent chance of storms this afternoon and evening, with the strongest cells capable of producing brief downpours, erratic winds, small hail, and lightning. Affected areas include Oakhurst, Shaver Lake, and Mammoth Lakes, as well as Yosemite Valley and the surrounding foothills.

Drivers on State Routes 41 and 168 should remain alert for sudden changes in visibility and wet roads. Campers and hikers in Yosemite are advised to seek shelter immediately if thunder is heard. Lightning remains the top threat with this system—officials urge people to stay indoors and wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunderclap before resuming outdoor activities.

Storm chances taper off tonight, but additional summer convection is possible later this week.
