San Francisco, CA – Residents along California’s Central Coast may see thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, with the highest risk in San Benito County, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The agency reported Thursday that the region faces a 10–20% chance of thunderstorms, most likely between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. Potential impacts include locally heavy rain, gusty winds, small hail, and lightning. Forecasters stressed that even a slight chance of storms can bring dangerous conditions, urging people to head indoors if thunder is heard.

According to the NWS San Francisco Bay Area office, San Benito County has the greatest potential for thunderstorm activity, though nearby counties along the Central Coast could also see brief, isolated storms. The threat is tied to unstable atmospheric conditions moving through California late Thursday.

While widespread severe weather is not expected, the hazards could disrupt outdoor activities and create slick travel conditions. The NWS advised: “When thunder roars, go indoors. See a flash, dash inside.”

Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather alerts throughout the evening and plan ahead for possible lightning and sudden downpours.
