California greets the morning under a gray, misty sky as rain taps steadily across the North Coast. In Eureka, fog clings to roadways, headlights glow through drizzle, and wet pavement signals another unsettled December day.

According to the National Weather Service, rain chances remain high today and continue through Thursday, with periods of steady rainfall expected. Visibility has already dropped to around 2.5 miles in fog, and conditions may worsen at times, especially near the coast and low-lying areas.

Drivers along U.S. 101 should prepare for slick roads and slower traffic, particularly during heavier rain bands. Allow extra stopping distance and watch for pooling water near intersections and along coastal stretches. Morning fog may linger before gradually thinning later in the day.

Temperatures stay mild, with highs near 61 degrees today and lows settling into the upper 40s. While freezing temperatures are not expected locally, the persistent dampness can make conditions feel colder. Light winds offer little relief, allowing fog and low clouds to hang on.

By Wednesday and Thursday, additional rounds of rain move through the region. Rainfall remains steady rather than intense, but repeated showers increase the risk of minor flooding in poor drainage areas. Gusty conditions may develop Thursday, adding to travel concerns along exposed roads.

Looking ahead to the extended five-day outlook, rain continues into Friday and Saturday, with daytime highs in the mid-to-upper 50s. Nights cool into the mid-40s. While no snow is expected at sea level, higher elevations inland may see early winter weather signals as colder air edges south.

Plan flexible travel, keep rain gear handy, and expect changing conditions as December storms persist along the coast.
