San Francisco, California – Salt spray lifts over seawalls as waves slam into the coast, sending whitewater across rocks and walkways this morning. Along Ocean Beach and the Pacific shoreline, the ocean looks restless and loud, a clear signal that conditions have turned dangerous fast.

According to the National Weather Service in San Francisco, a High Surf Advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. Large breaking waves between 17 and 22 feet are pounding Pacific Coast beaches, paired with powerful rip currents and an elevated risk of sneaker waves.

These waves can surge well beyond the normal surf zone without warning. Beach erosion is possible, and people standing on rocks or jetties face a real risk of being swept into the water. Even experienced swimmers can be overpowered within seconds. Officials urge everyone to stay out of the water and well back from the shoreline.

Away from the coast, patchy fog continues to shape the morning commute. Visibility drops before 10 a.m., especially near Highway 1, I-280, and stretches of US-101. Clouds linger into midday before partial clearing, with highs near 63 degrees.

Sunday brings similar conditions inland, with morning fog and mild afternoon temperatures near the low 60s. Changes arrive early next week. Clouds thicken Monday night, and rain chances increase by Tuesday morning. Wet pavement and reduced visibility could slow travel through midweek, especially during early commutes.

By mid to late next week, temperatures trend upward again. A warming pattern builds, hinting at a calmer stretch with more stable February weather ahead.

Anyone heading near the coast today should keep distance from the water and watch conditions closely. Seeing hazardous surf where you live? Let us know what it looks like along your shoreline.
