Bishop, CA – The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a Freeze Watch for the Owens Valley, warning that the first significant cold snap of the fall season could bring subfreezing temperatures by Tuesday night, October 14, into Wednesday morning, October 15.

Forecasters expect overnight lows between 27°F and 32°F, marking the valley’s first freeze of the season. The alert includes the communities of Bishop, Independence, Lone Pine, and Olancha, where early-morning frost could damage crops, outdoor vegetation, and unprotected pipes.

The weather service urges residents to wrap exposed plumbing, cover or move sensitive plants indoors, and bring pets inside overnight. This cold air mass will follow a stretch of breezy, dry weather that has lingered across eastern California.

Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly by Wednesday afternoon, but overnight freezes could return later in the week.
