EUREKA, Calif. – Northern California kicks off the first full week of October with a calm and sunny stretch, ideal for fall outings, leaf-viewing drives, and pumpkin patch visits. After patchy fog lifts each morning, skies will clear for bright, mild afternoons through Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, coastal fog will form early each morning through Tuesday before giving way to sunshine and highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Winds will stay light, making it safe for travel along U.S. Highway 101 and other North Coast routes. Motorists are advised to drive carefully through morning fog zones, especially near Humboldt Bay and north toward McKinleyville, where visibility may briefly drop below a quarter mile.

By midweek, cooler air moves inland with highs slipping into the lower 60s and nighttime lows dipping into the upper 40s. Wednesday looks mostly sunny before a slight chance of light rain returns Thursday, signaling the first hint of an autumn pattern change. The system will be weak, but early Halloween decorators and park-goers may want to plan outdoor activities before midweek.

Residents are urged to enjoy the clear start to October—ideal for hiking, gardening, or weekend markets—while keeping an eye on changing skies late week. Sunshine dominates now, but a wetter turn looms as the month deepens.
