Sacramento, California – Drivers heading into the Sierra Nevada should brace for slick roads and reduced visibility as a weak storm system brings light snow and rain to Northern California from Monday through early Tuesday. Some higher passes, including Donner and Echo Summits, could see up to 3 inches of accumulation, with snow levels dipping to 5,000 feet overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, snow showers will impact areas above 5,000 feet late Monday into Tuesday morning, with minor travel delays expected. Mountain routes like Highway 50, I-80, and Highway 88 could be affected, particularly during early morning hours.

In valley regions including Redding, Chico, and Sacramento, rain totals will generally stay below a quarter inch, but longer-than-usual commutes are likely. A 10–30% chance of isolated thunderstorms could bring brief downpours or gusty winds across the region, especially Monday afternoon.

Residents traveling into higher elevations are urged to drive with caution, check road conditions before departure, and prepare for winter-like driving even in May.

Showers taper off by Tuesday evening, but additional weather systems may follow later in the week. Updates will be issued as conditions evolve.
