San Francisco, CA – Strong sneaker waves and dangerous rip currents will impact San Francisco and surrounding coastal areas through late Tuesday night, prompting a Beach Hazards Statement from the National Weather Service. Forecasters warn that waves up to 18 feet could unexpectedly surge onto beaches, creating hazardous conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory affects San Francisco, Point Reyes National Seashore, the San Francisco Peninsula Coast, Monterey Bay, and Big Sur. The agency warns that sneaker waves may reach farther up the shore than usual, knocking people off their feet and pulling them into cold, fast-moving waters.

Residents and visitors are urged to stay out of the water and remain cautious near jetties and rocks. These conditions can also carry large driftwood logs and debris, increasing risks along the shoreline.

Five-Day San Francisco Forecast:

Wednesday: Sunny, high near 69°F. Light northeast winds.

Thursday: Slight chance of rain after 10 a.m., high near 68°F.

Friday: Mostly sunny, high near 65°F.

Saturday: Partly sunny with a chance of rain, high near 61°F.

Sunday: A chance of rain, high near 60°F.

Beachgoers should heed warnings and check local advisories before heading to the coast.
