Fresno, CA – Isolated thunderstorms are expected to impact the Sierra Nevada region from Yosemite National Park to Sequoia National Park this afternoon through 8 p.m. Tuesday, prompting weather alerts across Central California.
According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, scattered storms will bring the potential for frequent lightning, small hail, and erratic wind gusts up to 40 mph. The greatest threat window stretches into the early evening hours, primarily affecting higher elevation areas and nearby foothills.
Thunderstorm risks will not end Tuesday. Forecasters warn that storms are likely to redevelop across the Sierra Nevada and surrounding foothills on both Wednesday and Thursday, increasing the potential for additional travel disruptions and flash flooding in vulnerable zones.
The agency urges residents and visitors to seek shelter when thunder is heard, especially in outdoor areas near Yosemite and Sequoia parks. Those recreating in mountainous regions should remain weather-aware, as conditions may shift rapidly.
Drivers are advised to be cautious on mountain roadways where visibility may drop suddenly due to heavy downpours. Lightning-related fire hazards also remain a concern, particularly in dry brush zones.
