Fresno, Calif. – A surge of heat will grip California’s San Joaquin Valley this weekend, with temperatures soaring near 100 degrees and posing a moderate heat risk from Saturday through Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, a broad swath of the valley — including Fresno, Modesto, Visalia, and Bakersfield — will experience heightened heat illness potential, especially for vulnerable populations like seniors, infants, outdoor workers, and athletes. The warning is based on maximum daily temperatures forecast to climb into the upper 90s and low 100s, with limited overnight cooling.

The moderate heat risk zone includes Highway 99 and surrounding agricultural corridors, where field crews and delivery drivers may face exposure-related stress. Officials urge residents to drink plenty of water, wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, and limit time outdoors between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. whenever possible. Those without air conditioning should seek access to cooling centers or shaded spaces.

This marks the first extended heat risk of the season for the Central Valley, where early June warmth can quickly escalate into dangerous conditions. More heat advisories could be issued if the pattern intensifies.
