San Francisco, CA – Golden morning light spills across the Bay as calm, mild air holds near 62°F — but don’t get too comfortable. Northern California’s tranquil start to the week will quickly shift as a Pacific storm system barrels toward the coast by midweek, bringing widespread rain, breezy winds, and a return to slippery commutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Monterey, Veterans Day on Tuesday will be mostly sunny and warm, with highs around 73°F — ideal for ceremonies, travel, and outdoor plans. Light winds and stable air will make for pleasant conditions through Tuesday evening. But by early Wednesday, clouds will thicken and winds will increase from the southwest at 15–20 mph ahead of the incoming front.
Rain is expected to begin Wednesday afternoon and continue through Thursday, with a 100% chance of precipitation and locally heavy downpours possible along coastal and hilltop areas. Temperatures will drop sharply, with highs near 61°F Thursday and lows in the low 50s.
Residents should prepare for wet pavement and gusty crosswinds along I-80, Highway 101, and the Bay Bridge corridor during commutes. Showers taper Friday, but another weaker system may clip the region over the weekend.
This marks the Bay Area’s first strong November rain event — a “winter tease” signaling the storm track is reawakening. After all, fall in California rarely ends quietly.
