SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The marine layer still lingers, but brighter skies are waiting just beyond the haze. After a string of gray mornings, San Diego is about to step into a stretch of classic fall weather — warm afternoons, clear evenings, and calm winds rolling off the Pacific.
According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, clouds will gradually thin today as light north winds develop, giving way to partial sunshine and highs around 70 degrees. The low clouds may briefly return Thursday morning before retreating to the coastline again, setting up a warmer trend heading into Friday and the weekend. By Friday, inland highs should reach the mid-70s, while the beaches hover near 72 under clear, mild skies.
Patchy fog could redevelop along the coast late Friday night and again early Saturday, mainly near the I-5 corridor and Mission Bay. Mornings will start cool, around 60 degrees, before warming quickly under light afternoon breezes. The overall pattern looks stable and dry through early next week — a stretch of near-perfect weather for fall outdoor plans, from beach walks to backyard barbecues.
Residents can expect light haze at times but no significant rain or wind hazards. It’s ideal weather for early Halloween decorating, coastal cleanups, or enjoying one last weekend of short sleeves before November brings cooler Pacific air.
To be fair, it’s not the crisp chill of fall much of the nation sees — but for Southern California, this is autumn at its finest: warm sun, gentle air, and evenings cool enough for a light sweater by the water.
