Sacramento, California – Wind-driven fire danger is building across the Sacramento Valley as temperatures rise and humidity drops heading into Sunday and Monday. A Fire Weather Watch is in effect from 8 a.m. Sunday through 8 p.m. Monday, with gusty north winds and dry air creating dangerous conditions along the I-5 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, fire zones 215 through 219—including Glenn, Yolo, Colusa, and Sacramento counties—will face north winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 35 mph. Humidity could fall as low as 15%, creating prime conditions for wildfires to spark and spread rapidly.

Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, especially in open fields or near dry vegetation. The highest threat is expected along and west of Interstate 5, where wind speeds and dryness will peak.

Sunday brings sunny skies and highs near 92°F, with wind gusts beginning late in the day. By Monday, Sacramento will hit 90°F, with winds continuing to whip through the valley until evening. Fire crews and emergency managers urge residents to prepare for possible Red Flag Warnings.

Looking ahead, temperatures remain high through Thursday:

  • Tuesday: Sunny, near 92°F
  • Wednesday: Clear, high 94°F
  • Thursday: Hot again, near 93°F
  • Friday: Sunny, high 91°F
